Ultraviolet and visible (UV-Vis) absorption spectroscopy is the measurement of the attenuation of a beam of light after it passes through a sample or after reflection from a sample surface. Absorption measurements can be at a single wavelength or over an extended spectral range.

UV/Vis spectroscopy is routinely used in analytical
chemistry for the quantitative determination of
different analytes, such as transition metal ions,
highly conjugated organic compounds, and biological macromolecules.

- Usually EC is simultaneously measured with pH of a solution hence user instructions are similar to that of pH.
